I’ve been told I have a great voice, can I be a voice actor?
At the very beginning, we would like to say that it is a difficult job and above all a job that needs to be worked. Isn’t that the case in acting or in all branches of art? Knowing how the expression in the body shapes the sound requires a completely different mastery and sensitivity.
In order for this work to be performed correctly and properly, it is necessary to know phonetics first. Then it is necessary to have a good knowledge of diction, sound, breathing. Unfortunately, the work does not end with these. We can say that the real starts after this. First comes the technical part. It is necessary to know your own sound possibilities and abilities closely. The quality of the sound you have, and the way you use it, is of great importance in this respect. It is a very important aspect that the sound is pleasantly satisfied. Pleasantness is something about the timbre of that sound. For the exploration of possibilities and sound improvement, it is necessary to carry out systematic exercises and to evaluate them correctly. Because the quality of the voice is of great importance to be a good voice actor. Your voice should be balanced, determined, instilling authority, reassuring. There should be clarity in sound, simplicity and, most importantly, a personality. After all this, it is necessary to have a very good knowledge of the language, which is the most crucial point in analyzing the text. It is necessary to ask the right questions in the text so that this gives us the right emphasis. Thus, we can reach the point that needs to be highlighted in the text. The place where all the phonetic mechanisms we have mentioned so far are operated and inspected correctly is the diaphragm. In voice-over, in microphone acting, the diaphragm is operated a little differently than we use in the theater stage. When we are on stage, the diaphragm is an instrument through which we control our breath by keeping our breath under control, while in the studio it is the energy center where all the control is carried out. Let’s open it like this, the energy center; when an actor is on the stage of the theater it is considered a point between the abdomen and the groin. In vocalization, this energy point is the diaphragm. In voice-over, the diaphragm is the dynaggogue of enthusiasm. All these are, of course, necessary technical elements. When applied correctly, it cannot be passed beyond being a beautiful voice that speaks correctly. What matters is the emotion, the soul. Just as we don’t tolerate and watch an emotionless actor in a theater or movie scene just because he speaks right, the same is true in voice-over. A good voice acting requires good acting. He wants a good acting (soul) with a unique style and the right emotion in him. As in any job that needs to be done well, in order to be a good voice actor, it requires a right education where we can shape our talent correctly.
